“Every Fire Is a Lesson Learned:” The Latest on Project 03

May 28, 2012 By Finn Leave a Comment

After a couple nice therapeutic days in Duneland I was ready to get back started on Project 03. In the last week we had a couple incredible developments involving avenues Project 03 can go. One development is a avenue Project 03 can utilize – but that’s still contingent upon a meeting important enough that people are getting flown in for it (didn’t see that coming). As my buddy who set it up said, “I don’t f*** around.” Still not a done deal and it could always not happen until Project 03 develops a little more, but we’ll see.

The other involves who we could be working on Project 03 with. If it pans out into a good pattern, Project 03 can backbone some pretty cool web projects. It’ll come down to hammering out the details. We have a good feeling about it. Very good.

Overall…

It’s frightening, scary and beautiful at the same time. All we’ve been trying to do is stick working with good people who have good ideas and good dreams. I’ll admit, Project 01 never got to this close before the rug was pull out from underneath and the roof caved in. A similar thing just happened in my personal life (salutations on that later) but as I was leaving Duneland a line from the Ellie Goulding song Guns and Horses resonated in my head. Odd, too, because I’ve been getting used to her musical sound and outside of her cover of Elton John’s, Your Song, I hadn’t much heard the lyrics in the 6 weeks I’ve listened to the album.

I know you’ve been burn / but every fire is a lesson learned.

– Ellie Goulding

Usually, a line like that is a touch light for my liking. But it seemed to pass The Wolf’s initial test for lyrical believability: does the singer/writer sound like they lived the line or are they living a lie? It sounded like she lived the line. After I got comfortable with her believability, I let the lyrics wash over me. A couple minutes and a few more hills of soaking, I took solace in the concept. Smiled, believed in it. Felt it. The lyric made me realize how far I’ve come in the last 10 months. Even the personal setback hasn’t stopped me but for that 5th of Jameson the night DT told me – by the way, thanks, DT, for filling the glass when I wasn’t looking…details. Even that only fueled me. Everything is fueling me.

That’s how I used to be

Maybe this old dog is learning new tricks after-all. And I’m ready to battle again. That just feels f*****’ good.

As For Project 03

Looks like we’re on pace to announce it in about 3 months. Case studies are going well. We get this first meeting set figured out, signed, sealed and delivered and the Project becomes streamlined. Then we have to show a few more friends but, yeah, it’s looking more and more like it will be reality.

Lyrics to Ellie Goulding’s Guns & Horses

You’re so quiet
But it doesn’t faze me
You’re on time
You move so fast makes me feel lazy
Let’s join forces
We’ve got our guns and horses
I know you’ve been burned
But every fire is a lesson learned

I left my house
Left my clothes
Door wide open, heaven knows
You’re so worth it
You are

But I wish I could feel it all for you
I wish I could be it all for you
If I could erase the pain
Then maybe you’d feel the same
I’d do it all for you, I would
I would, I would, I would

Let’s type words
‘Cause they amount to nothing
Play it down
Pretend you can’t take what you found
But you found me
On a screen you sit at permanently

I left my house
Left my clothes
Door wide open
Heaven knows
You’re so worth it, you are

But I wish I could feel it all for you
I wish I could be it all for you
If I could erase the pain
Then maybe you’d feel the same
I’d do it all for you, I would
I would, I would, I would

It’s time to come clean,
And make sense of everything
It’s time that we found out who we are
‘Cause when I’m standing here in the dark
I see your face in every star

But I wish I could feel it all for you
I wish I could be it all for you
If I could erase the pain
The maybe you’d feel the same
I’d do it all for you, I would
I would, I would, I would

I’d do it all for you

– Ellie Goulding

Any guesses on what Project 03 is?
