Social Media in Chicago, Northwest Indiana, Indianapolis, & Southwest Florida – the Travel is Fun.

I really enjoy the time I spend in Social Media. Not only because it means I have an excuse to be in Chicago, Indianapolis, & Southwest Florida in addition to my home in Valparaiso, IN but without Social Media, my days spent alone on projects & writing a book of blues would become unbearable.

For me, Social Media is nearly inseparable from SEO but they still have their identities much like how Wrigleyville is in Chicago but retains their identity. With both of them it comes down to sweat equity. Those who just vomit out their messages without proactively reading others are not going to find an ROI.

Social Media Projects in Northwest Indiana & Indianapolis

Northwest Indiana

When I’m not working on them books of blues I am serving as co-director for #NWITweetup – Northwest Indiana Tweetups – as well as co-director for the new project #NWiSM- Northwest Indiana Social Media – where area businesses are sharing their business experiences and compiling an education resource for other businesses.

Indianapolis

In the past I’ve served as a volunteer director for Blog Indiana – Indiana’s largest internet marketing convention – and with a little luck I’ll be able to do it again this summer. Liveblogging for nationally recognized speakers such as Jason Falls & Jay Bear is a trip. I hope it comes around again!

(Try planning this kind of fun. Go ahead, good luck) Tweetups, like Meetups and Networking Events, are always nice to plan. It’s also helpful to be able to pick your venue, plan a menu, craft a guest list, and develop a framework for how the evening should flow in advance. It’s especially helpful to the [...]

Despite Google’s numerous warnings that its newest project is still very much in Beta, the word is still out on Google Wave. At this point, I feel “blue balled” by the new tool because the moment I think it’s great, it fails to follow through on what I would like it to do. Two words, [...]

(the above companies are ready for cyber monday. Are you?) Right now I’m watching the Colts work a comeback against the Texans. Then I’m going to go to the gym and finally get my body back in shape and my energy up. Last year at this time I was prepping blog posts for release on [...]

So my grandfather got new tires last Saturday from the local gas station. The tires were part of his pre-Florida roadtrip tune-up. Snowbirds need to make sure their wings are ready for flight. The owner of the gas station & oldold man Finn have been friends since long before my existence. In fact, that gas [...]

“Water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows” – Sun Tzu (photo credit: Kane Glendhil via Flickr) Do enough research about social media and you’ll find contradictions. For every purist who tells you to engage in the conversation there’s another whose telling you to target and get results. [...]

We’re getting better with our TweetUps in The Region – Chicago South Suburbs to South Bend. We’ve got a cool one coming up in December – if you like bowling. And Lord help the poor Ghet who doesn’t tie in charity / non-profit when sponsoring our get-togethers. I think #NWITweetUp will grow from a fad [...]

In about an hour I get to go my first #NWITweetup as a free agent. The last few I’ve gone under the banner of the employer. Luckily a few things seem to be going my way in my plight to be my own employer. Hopefully those things pan out a little better in the coming [...]

(amazing the things you find when you flickr search “not the king.” Flickr photo by Don Soto) The essence of Brogan’s post “Content Is Not King” from yesterday was: “Content is currency. You’re the king.” Yesterday I reaffirmed my belief in why Content will forever be king. Today, I reaffirm why You and I are [...]

I’ve spent the last 90 minutes obsessing over a 2.0 concept just because Chris Brogan wrote a post titled, “Content is Not King.” “I hate him sometimes,” lied Finn. The intent of the post was to reinforce the human aspect of social media – putting the “social” back into Social Media. As he put it, [...]

Free Webcam Chat at Ustream Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. If you’re lucky, those things end up working about better than you could have ever imagined. I came down to Indy for 2009 Halloween to see the sacred, hallowed grounds for Indianapolis New Media Marketers from 96th Street to Greenwood:  The Bean Cup. [...]

Sometimes there’s value to channel surfing. In between innings of Game 1 of the 2009 World Series and I stumbled upon a classic movie I haven’t seen in years:  The Crow. Brandon Lee’s spooky prophetic Coda. After about three seconds I was recognizing what people were saying, sort of. Then I realized it was in [...]

I’m posting tonight from Terry’s Pit Stop just outside Lake Patoka State Park in Birdseye, IN, hidden within the outskirts of the Hoosier National Forest, a half-gallon of gas from the Ohio River, an hour west of Louisville and a million miles from reality. Terry’s Pit Stop has the look and feel of a log [...]

(Nat Finn, Nichole Baiel, and Rahsaan Taylor giving a Social Media Presentation at the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce – August 25, 2009) Finally got the video playlist set up from the Social Media Presentation me and a couple co-workers gave before the Valparaiso (IN) Chamber of Commerce. It was a good time. Initially I was [...]

When developing a social media while working on a writing career, one should be faithfully mindful of a simple concept: opportunity cost. Case and point: this evening. After 12 hours of work I warmed up some rigitoni as a part of my dinner. Instead of getting off the bed after inhaling dinner I laid there [...]

A final reminder for Northwest Indiana Twitterers and Tweeps to mark your calendars and update your crackberries: livemercial will be hosting a “Second Tweet-Up” at Pikk’s Tavern in Valparaiso, IN tonight, TUESDAY October 6th. And when you get there, let the people at Pikk’s know you’re there for the tweet-up and then head on down [...]
