Social Media in Chicago, Northwest Indiana, Indianapolis, & Southwest Florida – the Travel is Fun.

I really enjoy the time I spend in Social Media. Not only because it means I have an excuse to be in Chicago, Indianapolis, & Southwest Florida in addition to my home in Valparaiso, IN but without Social Media, my days spent alone on projects & writing a book of blues would become unbearable.

For me, Social Media is nearly inseparable from SEO but they still have their identities much like how Wrigleyville is in Chicago but retains their identity. With both of them it comes down to sweat equity. Those who just vomit out their messages without proactively reading others are not going to find an ROI.

Social Media Projects in Northwest Indiana & Indianapolis

Northwest Indiana

When I’m not working on them books of blues I am serving as co-director for #NWITweetup – Northwest Indiana Tweetups – as well as co-director for the new project #NWiSM- Northwest Indiana Social Media – where area businesses are sharing their business experiences and compiling an education resource for other businesses.

Indianapolis

In the past I’ve served as a volunteer director for Blog Indiana – Indiana’s largest internet marketing convention – and with a little luck I’ll be able to do it again this summer. Liveblogging for nationally recognized speakers such as Jason Falls & Jay Bear is a trip. I hope it comes around again!

Want Some Social Media Assistance

As an internet marketing strategist, I use Social Media all day long. Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, Google +…If you and your business would like help with the Social Media brand creation, engagement, strategy and/or training, please contact me today.

Last week ended up being a couple of lackluster events for the stuck-in-neutral NWiSM project. Sitting at Cornucopia Coffee Company by myself for what I was trying to pass off as a quiet lunch, I was started having reservations about putting any more effort into the project when, lo and behold, Chris Mahlmann came through the [...]

It started with a text from a friend who’d gone radio-silent. CIA, NSA, NCIS…whatever something important he was doing that saved the world from Terrorism. Or just reading too many Daniel Silva books (Danielle Steele?). It turned into a, “let’s go for brewskis,” and spat out on Social Media and 5 days later: POOF! An [...]

I had the pleasure of spending last week with my old supervisior and another great colleague (they’re pictured above) helping the brilliant young minds of the Missouri University School of Journalism – ranked #1 in the country – prepare for the Google Online Challenge. They were eager, starved for knowledge and sharp as tacks. My [...]

It’s 2pm. Jim Ulom of Certified Home Inspections is breaking down the tables after the first Lunch & Learn. Dave Woodson is at the desk showing Michelle Ulom how to use a tablet PC. I’m lounged out on the couch, staring out the window watching the cars whiz by down US 30 & letting both [...]

Sittin’ with the OldOld man when the evening came tonight. He asks me about tomorrow’s luncheon. I try to tell him: “Most all that stuff you talk about goes right over my head,” …he likes to tell me during commercial breaks of the O’Reilly Factor. Now the OldOld man has been retired nearly twenty years, [...]

In a stroke of brilliance, the city of Philadelphia, PA is considering making bloggers play $300 a year for a business privilege license in order to blog with an ad on their site. The art form once called “journaling,” is now being conceived as a potential to make money. And I thought only the sports [...]

Scheduling snafus, controversies, and an uphill battle were among the events encircling last night’s Northern Indiana Social events for those in Michiana. I would be less than honest if I didn’t confess that my thoughts on the drive up were with them. My thoughts were also on that drive up US 12 along the National [...]

Didn’t we always say we were part of the movement, not all of it? Of coarse we changed the world, but try and follow through, get off your gold disc and fly! – John Lennon to Paul and Linda McCartney (1969) My name is Nat Finn. I have logged over 5 years worth of time [...]

I’m sitting here in my friend’s office at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. The first class I taught went suprisingly well. Of course I broadcasted the event on UStream but didn’t record it. Mistakes to be corrected tomorrow. I was also happy to see I had so many asking questions, staying attentive, and [...]

I’m sitting in room Seven at the Marriot in Indianapolis, IN watching Northwest Indiana Mortgage legend and friend Dave Woodson teach realitors at the Real Estate Bar Camp Indiana how to set up a WordPress blog. I’m using the WordPress App to show the site’s diversity.

While on my cramped flight to Chicago with less then amicable elders, I found my escape in the form of: 1) “Reckoning” by the Grateful Dead & 2) “Twitter Marketing for Dummies” by Kyle Lacy. I pre-ordered Lacy’s book back in, what was it, October & I had it half-read in a few days. Then [...]

Hey guys – Amy Stark – innovator of the #indiana Twitter trend movement of December 10, 2009 and the founder of the Indiana Social Media Summit – just talked to a few of us on the prospect of developing one unifying Twitter HashTag  for Indiana social media movements. I’m a fan. The topic needs further [...]
